Præco sum magni regis, St. Francis said; “I am a herald of the Great King.” As members of the CCR, we should all seek to be likewise. We are all the heralds of the Great King; let us proclaim Him forever with all our voice!
I am a herald of the great king! —St. Francis of Assisi
In the beginning of St. Francis's conversion, records Thomas of Celano, he was walking in the woods, singing praises to the Lord in the French tongue, when he was accosted by some thieves, who asked him who he was. St. Francis, always full of joy, responded “boldly” (confidenter) thus:
Præco sum magni regis, quid ad vos?
I am a herald of the great king; what is it to you?
The thieves, one can imagine, found this hilarious; they beat him and threw him into a pit, but of course the saint was delighted to suffer humiliation for the Name of Christ.
In this way, St. Francis was an exemplary comes of the Confraternity. With joy, singing the praises of God, and without fear, he proclaimed the kingship of Christ even to those attacking and beating him. Nothing would stand between him and his loyal service to his king; indeed, to the “great king”, Whose love meant everything to him.
So like St. Francis, let His praise be always on our lips; let us sing for joy the praises of God; and when asked who we are, let us not focus on ourselves, but on the One Who sent us. We are heralds of the Great King; let us always behave as such.
Christus vincit! Christus regnat! Christus imperat!
