Miles” is the Latin word for soldier, and the CCR typically does translate it that way. The idea is that the miles is an active soldier for Christ, as he promised he would be when he was confirmed; but more specifically, that he is an active soldier for Christ the King and the doctrine thereof, an upholder of His social reign.

The miles prays, fasts, and also works—goes to meetings, serves the poor, talks at his parish, hands out literature, talks to others about the Faith and about Christ the King. In this way he serves his King.

Despite the name, the CCR is not a military or paramilitary organization; we do sometimes carry weapons (swords, specifically), but these are for ceremonial and symbolic, not warlike, purposes. Like other organizations with similar military terminology and accoutrements, such as the Knights of Columbus, we us the imagery of battle and struggle as a way of focusing our attention on our spiritual aims.

The miles of the CCR makes certain promises regarding his prayer and his works:

These promises are only marginally different from those of the comes; however, the miles also has the right to participate in all the works of the CCR. Namely:

The miles is thus the critical moving part of the CCR and its work. If you are being called to participate directly in the restoration of the social reign of Christ the King in this way, visit our joining center and get started.
